ORPHANS // APRIL 9-30, 2017

“…Chock-full of suspense.... As the lights came up, I realized I had been holding tightly to the neckline of my shirt.”—Toronto Star

THE COAL MINE THEATRE PRESENTS:

ORPHANS

Written by Dennis Kelly

Danny and Helen have an unexpected visitor when Liam shows up, covered in blood, in this chilling exploration of violence and racism in urban society. Liam’s claim he offered assistance to an unconscious stranger bleeding in the street is soon exposed as an alt-fact. ORPHANS shakes up the preconceived notions of morality, loyalty and honesty while trying to keep quiet the violence and evil that lurks inside everyone.

“Dennis Kelly‘s play grips you tight, like a mugger in a knife-point robbery.”

REVIEWS

...a fine performance from (Diana) Bentley as Helen, vibrating on the brink of tearing her new family apart to save her original one.

★★★

Director Leora Morris has beautifully paced the action to maintain an inexorably mounting tension.
